Local Buzz

Whole Foods celebrated its grand opening Nov. 5, unveiling its new sign and breaking bread with the locals. Shoppers should be sure to check out the bounty of local goods, including a plethora of regional wines and produce (handy signs showcase where each Central Coast purveyor is located), Hearst Ranch beef, Baba Hummus, Live Local Apparel, and much more from around these here parts. Check out these local purveyors at Whole Foods, 1531 Froom Ranch Way, San Luis Obispo (and try one of the chain’s specialty lavender-flavored macaroons while you’re at it). … Comfort market and Bistro in Arroyo Grande is serving up more than a rainbow of melty-gooey grilled cheeses. Try their Tuna Nicoise—with olives, green beans, red taters, and onion—in either salad or wrap form for a salty, savory pick-me-up that transcends “lunch.”

Growing strong

The 10th Annual Sustainable Ag Expo will be held at the Madonna Inn Expo Center on Nov. 17 and 18 and focuses on “Balancing Water, Soil, and Nutrient Resources for Long Term Sustainability.” The Vineyard Team will also celebrate the accomplishments of regional winemakers, including Dana Merrill of Pomar Junction Vineyards & Winery and Neil Roberts of Clavo Cellars. A reception featuring Vineyard Team member wines and innovative products and services will kick off at the Sustainable Ag Expo’s Exhibitor Showcase, too (for a list of events, visit vineyardteam.org). … Templeton Valley Farms isn’t taking a break during the winter months. In fact, you can find amazing, fresh flavors bursting from their five-acre plot of paradise. Herbs and greens are on the menu, and I hear the leeks are just about ready for harvesting (for all the info, check out templetonvalleyfarms.com).

The whole enchilada

Paso Robles institution Adelaida Cellars will host a special dinner continuing the celebration of its HMR Vineyard’s 50th anniversary this Nov. 14. The intimate feast will commence at Bistro Laurent in Paso Robles and feature the wines of Jeremy Weintraub paired with fare prepared by Chef Laurent Grangien (for more information, email [email protected]). … Holy granola! The monks at the New Camaldoli Hermitage in Big Sur have whipped up some incredible gourmet fruit cakes, date nut cakes, and new granola just in time for the holiday season. Order the unique, handmade treats at hermitagebigsur.com or call 866-0544.
