Gerry Manata hit the nail on the head with the city of Paso Robles’, and specifically the “head in the sand” City Council’s—especially the mayor’s—attitude as to the impact of the proposed Gateway Project annexation, along with the development plans for Chandler Ranch, Olsen Ranch, and Beechwood, in light of not only the water situation and problem resolution, but additional traffic, city services, police and fire personnel, inadequate roads, and crowded schools (“Urban sprawl in Paso Robles is the worst!” Oct. 10).
Paso Robles used to be a nice, quiet, and sustainable community with a few family-owned and residents’ wineries that gave it character—that is, until large outside corporations and millionaires started buying up property and putting in very large vineyards with only profit in mind at the expense of homeowners and local farmers.
It is time to organize and fight back, and a good place to start is to replace the current Paso Robles City Council, be it election or recall.
