The CHP continues to investigate last weekend’s head-on collision on Highway 46 that killed three people and injured two.

According to reports, Jorge Gomez of Bakersfield was driving his car eastbound near Cholame, attempting to pass a semi-truck driven by Husein Osman. Gomez’ car clipped Osman’s rig, forcing Osman into westbound traffic. Osman collided with a car driven by Mark Melville, who, along with his family, was on his way back from Southern California to his home in Santa Cruz. Melville, his wife Mary and their one-year-old daughter were killed. Their eight-year-old daughter suffered major injuries and is listed in critical condition in a San Jose hospital. Osman was treated for minor injuries in Paso Robles and released. So far, no criminal charges have been filed.
