Thanks to my wife, who knows what an enormous fan of Brian Wilson’s vocal harmonies I am, I was turned on to Glen Starkey’s article (“The reel deal,” Aug. 27). I am so grateful she thought of me when she saw the cover of New Times, as now I have heard the mixing results of those resurfaced tapes.

After reading the article, I dug out my old vinyl of Shut Down: Volume 2 to revisit the mono version of “Don’t Worry Baby,” then listened to the previous stereo mix (with Brian’s vocals isolated left and backing vocals all in the right channel) then to the remix on Summer Love Songs.

What absolute aural joy! A thousand times thank you for turning me on to something old that is once again brand new!
