How does everyone feel about promoting tourism in SLO County? It seems that our Board of Supervisors thinks it’s a grand idea. So much so that they even renewed a tourism tax on lodging businesses, the purpose of which is “to promote San Luis Obispo County as a tourism destination … .” Maybe I am in the minority, but I’m thinking that this county and its natural beauty and existing attractions pretty much attract a sufficient number of tourists. More crowded roads, more air pollution, more crowded venues? Yep! Exactly what I’m sure each of us wants our supervisors to promote and tax us to accomplish! Shame on them!

  1. Totally agree. Enough tourists. I mean, what we have is good enough. Unfortunately, money is never enough for merchants and politicians. Also why I want to keep odsvra campground closed.

  2. Absolutely agree with both Timothy Murphy and Lucia Casalinuovo. The rampant greed never stops! The BOS seems to not have a care about the environment, but more $$’s in their coffers, well, that’s a very different story!
So glad folks are able to enjoy the beach in Oceano!

  3. I have also enjoyed the odsvra beach now that it’s closed to vehicular traffic. The park service has been doing a great job partolling the parking area and beach area to ensure safety. Tourism brings money to county coffers so we can expand the sheriff’s department, etc. but most of the jobs related to tourism are minimum wage.
