You know what else isnt safe? Everything. Its a matter of risk perception and risk management. We need to manage those things that pose large risks to us (traffic accidents, credit card fraud, air pollution, etc.), and stop focusing so much attention on those things that pose small risks to us (nuclear energy). Im thankful for all of the emergency planning that Diablo Canyon sponsors in our county – because next time our county has a major incident like an earthquake or fire we will all benefit from their preparedness.
