Some quiche with that coffee?
The juncture of Halcyon Road and Highway 1 is a surprisingly peaceful place, overlooking Arroyo Grande and surrounded by vast agricultural fields. The location lends itself to a business specializing in spoiling customers with a hot cup of coffee or a glass of wine and some quiche. Mesa Cafe and Coffee Co. is not a…

Citizens talk CSD off ledge
As promised, the Los Osos Community Services District used its regularly scheduled Dec. 28 hearing to discuss self-dissolution of the debt-burdened agency. The apparently frustration-fueled decision was born of a move by the county during a mid-December bankruptcy proceeding to harness control of district assets that the board maintains it needs to stay afloat. As…

Listen up, Mom and Pops
About a week ago, I was fortunate enough to touch base with a friend from high school. She e-mailed me and suggested we both take time from our busy schedules and meet for coffee. I thought it an excellent idea! We live on opposite ends of San Luis Obispo County and so naturally I asked…

I hate it when government treats people like thisThank you for your latest article about the Los Osos sewer issue (“The latest from Los Osos,” Dec. 14). The Tribune’s coverage seems to reflect their editorial position by omitting things that do not support it, mostly. It sure seems like the fix is in and government…

Get on this, now
In the spirit of fresh beginnings, I decided to make a whole buttload of resolutions though not for myself. It’s much easier to unload buttloads onto other people, don’t you think? It’s all the fun of starting new with none of the self-sacrifice. That’s my kind of change. For example, I resolve all the superfluous…
They walk the line
For at least six years or probably as long as there have been protesters outside of the Planned Parenthood office in San Luis Obispo a group of volunteers has made itself into a literal barrier between women seeking abortion services and a persistent line of demonstrators. # A core group of activists, bearing pamphlets and…
