The wolf is a symbol of our untamable selves—liberating and savage, according to contemporary Australian circus Artistic Director Yaron Lifschitz, whose “10 extraordinary performers fuse acrobatics, aerial work, and athletic dance into a single, unbroken force” in Circa: Wolf, hosted by Cal Poly Arts at the Performing Arts Center in SLO on Tuesday, Oct. 20 (7:30 p.m.; $47 to $74 at calpolyarts.org).

“Circa is one of the world’s great performing arts companies,” Cal Poly Arts announced. “Based out of Brisbane, Australia, this contemporary circus company has been captivating audiences in over 45 countries since 2004—reaching more than 2 million people. Their award-winning performances have earned standing ovations, rave reviews, and sold-out shows across six continents. At the forefront of the new wave of contemporary Australian circus, Circa is redefining the art form by showcasing how extreme physicality can forge powerful and emotive experiences.”

The two-act circus begins by depicting nature’s chaos, but in the second act, “the company moves from chaos to pack, from disruption to something that feels—against all odds—like belonging.”

Organizers describe the show as “a fierce, driving work that transforms the stage into something feral and alive.”

“Everything we do is fueled by our core values: quality, audacity, humanity,” Circa explained.
