I want to commend the Democratic Party this year for its endorsement of John Ashbaugh and Jeff Aranguena. These fellows have proven their support for the principles of their party and deserve our votes.
The individuals endorsed in the last election by the Democrats have proven to be a great disappointment to those of us who value the Democratic Party principles. As far as the “fiscal responsibility” of those currently on the SLO City Council, they all supported the policies of the previous administration, which left the city with millions of dollars in debt. As far as their experience in city government, I can attest that you do not get appointed unless you are expected to go along with the status quo.
I have seen many of the policies that made SLO town the “happiest city” fall by the wayside in the past 12 years due to the city council’s continuous domination by the pro-development crowd. To gain control of the ever-increasing traffic problems, the deterioration of our downtown, the continuation of tax increases (whatever happened to the extra $5 million that Measure Y replaced?), and continual water rate increases, I will be voting for Ashbaugh and Aranguena.
