Nicky (Dan Levy) is a put-upon pastor whose mother, Linda (Laurie Metcalf); troublemaking sister, Morgan (Taylor Ortega); and suck-up sister, Natalie (Abby Quinn), keep him irritatingly busy alongside his congregation—a congregation happy to have a gay pastor as long as he is “non-practicing.”
BIG MISTAKES
What’s it rated? TV-MA
When? 2026
Where’s it showing? Netflix
Morgan’s reckless (yet, to be quite honest, so relatable) behavior put herself and Nicky into a sticky situation with some unsavory characters, so the two are forced to fulfill promises to Ivan (Mark Ivanir) after Morgan shoplifts a necklace that turns out to be worth much more than the $79 price tag.
Metcalf, as always, is amazing as Linda—and, boy, am I glad she isn’t my mom. Blustering and hard-assed, she gives her kids a run for their money. Nicky is just trying to keep his life from imploding. But doing so while trying to balance the women in his family, his secret boyfriend, and the weight of his faith all at the same time is exasperating.
Levy is always a gem, and while it can’t (and shouldn’t) be compared to Schitt’s Creek, Big Mistakes is another bingeable gold nugget from him. Warm, funny, and absurd adjacent. (eight 31-to-37-min. episodes).
