BIG HOUSE RED 2009

I was surprised by this tasty, value-priced wine that seems to have a little of this and a little of that with more than 13 varieties in the blend. It tastes of wild briary blackberries and boysenberries that meld with notes of smoke, spice, and earth. Well balanced with bright acidity, this easy drinking wine is a good choice on its own. It will easily pair with a good cheeseburger, veggie pizza, or barbecued ribs. It’s no longer part of Bonny Doon winery—they sold it to the Wine Group in 2006—but it’s a good buy at Trader Joe’s for only $6.99 retail.
