Randy Jordan’s letter (“Ride on, rookies,” Jan. 15), which presents the off-road vehicle industry as an assembly of good-hearted citizens, is outrageous. I am angry at the indecent self-interest it radiates: All hail to the almighty dollar, Mr. Jordan?

Tell the next mother who loses a son how much fun he had moments before his death, or how delighted he was minutes before his lifetime confinement in a wheelchair. The fact remains that California, through the Department of Motor Vehicles, receives big bucks through the licensing of ATVs. It’s all based on money, isn’t it? See outside the box of financial gain and view the dangerous recreational pastime for what it is: the cause of pain and suffering for the injured, for their relatives, and for the relatives of the dead. Oppose vehicle use on our beaches!
