The city of San Luis Obispo is soliciting proposals from local artists to beautify the remaining 27 unpainted city-owned traffic signal utility boxes with unique box art designs.

The SLO Box Art program contributes to the vitality and attractiveness of the community while deterring graffiti and adding to the curb appeal. All applications are due on March 9 by 5 p.m. Painting is scheduled to occur in summer 2018. Designs can be hand drawn or digital. Artists will receive a stipend ranging from $700 for small utility boxes to $1,500 to larger utility boxes. Artists can also apply to be reimbursed for up to $200 in art supplies.
