Cal Poly Arts presents the Grammy Award and Emmy Award-winning group Alphabet Rockers on their Shades: Anthems for the Planet at Spanos Theatre on Saturday, Oct. 3 (11 a.m.; recommended for kids 5 and older; $23.60 at pacslo.org).
They bring a “blend of hip-hop, storytelling, and community-building to the stage with … an interactive concert experience for children and families inspired by the voices of climate caretakers, scientists, and environmental changemakers from around the world,” organizers explained. “Filled with music, movement, and audience participation, this high-energy performance celebrates the power of working together to care for one another and the planet we share.”
Co-leaders Kaitlin McCaw and Tommy Soulati formed their Oakland-based group 15 years ago. They’re “nationally renowned children’s book authors, influential media creatives, keynote speakers, performers and commissioned songwriters, for animation and other projects,” according to their bio
They create “music that sparks connection, joy, and belonging, earning national recognition for their innovative work with young people and communities. From the Kennedy Center to Lollapalooza, they have inspired audiences of all ages through songs that encourage authenticity, courage, and collective action.”
The show “is an uplifting and unforgettable experience that invites families to imagine a brighter future and discover how even small actions can make a big difference.” Δ
