Howard Myers, a 98ish-year-old Los Osos resident, will ring the bell for Salvation Army donations from noon to 2 p.m. each Saturday in December at Ralph’s market in Los Osos. I believe he is the oldest volunteer Salvation Army bell ringer, at least in San Luis County. Howard is a WWII veteran and a long-time volunteer with South Bay Seniors—People Helping People. Howard tells it like it is and has many lively stories. You never know what you might hear from him!

I’m told that Los Osos bell ringers are some of the only all-volunteer Salvation Army bell ringers—others are paid.
