DREAMER In the TV series Widow’s Bay, Matthew Rhys stars as Mayor Tom Loftis, who hopes to make his island town the next Martha’s Vineyard but instead discovers an ancient curse, streaming on Apple TV. Credit: PHOTO COURTESY OF APPLE TV

I saw a post on Instagram this morning that had clips from Widow’s Bay and the caption read, “I love my spooky Parks and Rec,” and that’s a perfect description of this series.

Mayor Tom Loftis (Matthew Rhys, who’s having quite the career year) is somewhat reminiscent of Mayor Vaughn in Jaws—much too eager for tourism dollars and willing to dismiss the red flags waving all over town. Widow’s Bay is a cursed town, but the mayor, who’s a transplant, doesn’t believe it.

WIDOW’S BAY
What’s it rated? TV-MA
When? 2026
Where’s it showing? Apple TV

Mayoral office workers Patricia (Kate O’Flynn) and Rosemary (the great Dale Dickey) are absolutely key to this series’ greatness, proving to be the thorns in Tom’s side just as often as they’re helpful. I’ll definitely be giving another watch before season 2 comes out. That’s the great news—this series has been renewed for another spooky season.

Campy and reminiscent of Twin Peaks, this has an eerie feel, kooky characters, and enough mystery to hook you. I am totally sold on this series and the season to come—I hope they stick to the feel of the first season. (10 31-to-48-min. episodes).  ∆
