It’s so satisfying on those rare occasions when an argument or tense situation reaches its peak and you’re the one to walk away having said the last biting word.

Building off that concept, writers are invited to ruminate and create going off of the theme The Final Word for the 2016 Central Coast Writers Contest. The competition is in conjunction with Cuesta College and the 32nd Annual Central Coast Writers Conference and includes categories for flash fiction, poetry, and screenwriting.

For short fiction, poetry, and screenwriting, first place winners receive $1,000. Second place recipients get $500, and $100 goes to the third place winners. For the flash fiction category, the first place winner receives $500, second place is awarded $100, and third place gets $50.

Entries must be received by midnight on July 15, 2016. The conference will be held Sept. 29 through Oct. 1 on Cuesta College’s main campus in San Luis Obispo. Visit centralcoastwriterscontest.blogspot.com for more information.
