As of 2012, SLO County has been without an enclosed roller skating rink facility. Skate-Mor in Paso Robles closed in 2012, and in the early 2000s Flippo’s in Morro Bay closed. This year, the city of Goleta gave a $250,000 break to a nonprofit group working to open an ice skating rink.

It’s a shame we don’t have a city that would openly support a recreation facility like that.

My solution to SLO County’s lack of a roller skating rink is that a non-private or private company acquire the Santa Rosa Multi-Use Roller Hockey Court and fundraise to the enclose the facility and to be able to build a pro shop. Taking away basketball from the court would free up when skaters could use the facility. An enclosed skating facility in SLO County would benefit roller derby terms, recreational roller skaters, and roller hockey teams needing a place to play.
