The San Luis Obispo City Firefighters Association is threatening to sue San Luis Obispo if the city puts binding arbitration and pension reform measures on the ballot.
Stuart D. Adams, the lawyer for the firefighters sent a letter to the city claiming it violated meet-and-confer rules.
“There has been no meet and confer with the local [sic], nor has there been a request to do so,” Adams wrote. “Additionally, since the local is currently under a binding [Memorandum of Understanding] with the City, the City cannot meet and confer on the issue until the expiration of said agreement.”
The SLO Chamber of Commerce is organizing an “independent” committee to “push pension reform, arbitration repeal.” Announced on the chamber website, the appeal for help is linked to an online signup sheet.
“It will take highly concentrated, coordinated and well-funded grass-roots political action to spread the word on the need for binding arbitration repeal,” reads the appeal for committee members.
