I am deeply offended by the recent political cartoon (“A year in cartoons,” Dec. 28) depicting Supervisor John Peshong with Supervisors Lynn Compton and Debbie Arnold on their knees at his feet.
The cartoon sets women’s equality back 50 years.
While these supervisors represent a conservative constituency, none of these elected officials believe women are less than equal at that dais and equally serve their supervisorial districts.
With the heightened awareness surrounding sexual harassment in this country’s current landscape, your publishing that cartoon simply paints you as sexist as a Cosby, Lauer, Rose, or Weinstein.
Shame on Russell Hodin for drawing it, and shame on you for publishing it!

Gee, maybe if Compton and Arnold didn’t follow his very lead and would think for themselves people wouldn’t have this perception!!
And now another year of the same BS……give to the few while taking from the many! You call that conservatism? I call it partisan politics and it is only good for less than half the people. What the hell happened to our democracy which is set up for ALL THE PEOPLE! These board of supervisors need to be able to have adult conversation and compromise to a consensus on what works best for our entire community. Not happening! So the cartoon is fitting!
I encourage all readers here to join the growing Republican/Democratic coalition eager to elect Jimmy Paulding to the County Board of Supervisors and help put an end to all the ridiculous infighting among a lot of big talking, know-nothing windbags of both major political parties. We need a fresh, well-educated and experienced and INDEPENDENT voice on the board. There has not been a better candidate for supervisor than Jimmy Pauling in years.
Let’s help bring our community together. Vote for Jimmy Paulding.
Shame on Julie Tacker for attempting to censor legitimate and honest political discourse.
To equate Hodin’s pointed cartoon with the alleged assaults by Harvey Weinstein is ridiculous and certainly borders on libel. Julie Tacker owes Russell Hodin, the Central Coast’s most perceptive and enlightening political cartoonist, a huge public apology.
Tacker either doesn’t get it or doesn’t want to get it. Hodin’s cartoon was not about gender roles, it was simply portraying political relationships on the board in the manner that many people perceive them to be. Debbie Arnold admitted on the Dave Congalton show that in her first year as supervisor she spoke daily with extreme rightwing lobbyist Michael Brown. Why? Anyone who has watched or listened to a board of supervisors meeting knows that Compton and Arnold kow-tow to Peschong. It’s no secret. In fact, it’s blatant.
The truth behind Hodin’s cartoon seems to be what has gotten Tacker so bothered and compelled her, for selfish political reasons, to pretend to be offended and try to bring shame on one of our community’s greatest truth tellers.
Thank you New Times for employing such a fine and courageous cartoonist as Russell Hodin. I can hardly wait for his next cartoon pointing out the truth about Julie Tacker, who, if I’m not mistaken, has been taken to task by Hodin in the past. Thus no surprise that Tacker, our county’s most notorious carpet-bagging gadfly, tries to tar him with her phony B.S. as she tries to work the system for her own personal benefit and ego gratification.
