Brian Joseph Lawler, 26, died after jumping from a multistory parking structure at the corner of Palm and Morro streets in downtown San Luis Obispo.
According to a press release, SLOPD received multiple 911 calls at around 4:30 p.m. on July 18, reporting that someone had jumped from the top of the building. Units were on the scene and performing CPR almost immediately.
Lawler was then transported to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead due to “multiple injuries.”
According to SLOPD, an investigation of the crime scene revealed that the victim was alone and purposely jumped. There was no indication of a crime or any foul play.
A SLO native, Lawler had studied at Boston University and UC Berkeley, where he was a competitive diver. He was a member of the 2002 U.S. Diving Junior World Team and was the 2006 American East Conference Most Outstanding Diver at BU.
Lawler’s LinkedIn profile lists his profession as “artist and designer.” He is survived by his parents, Linda and James Lawler of SLO, and two sisters, Michelle and Jenna. His father, James, is a local orthopedic surgeon.
A memorial has been planned for Aug. 3.
