James Dahlgren, a 59-year-old Paso Robles golf instructor, was hit and killed by a train in Paso Robles on the evening of July 16.
According to Dahlgren’s wife, Pamela, James had been depressed and suffering from health problems for years. He talked about killing himself and exactly how he would do it, she said.
“He actually left a note,” she told New Times.
According to the Paso Robles Police Department, Dahlgren’s body was found near the 24th Street intersection. The call came in at about 5:36 p.m.
Emergency responders attempted lifesaving efforts, but Dahlgren was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a department news release.
Officials from the Paso Robles Police Department and San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Department are still investigating the case, and were expected to release more information the day of this printing.
The lead investigator, Paso Robles Lt. Ty Lewis, couldn’t be reached for additional information.
Dahlgren was an independent golf teacher who had self-published a religious book, Pamela said.
His death marks the second time a person was killed by a train in the area in the last two years. Bryan Brady was hit and killed at the 12th Street intersection on July 31, 2010, the morning after his 21st birthday. His cause of death was determined accidental, but officials from the Sheriff’s Department and District Attorney’s Office plan to re-review that case.
