After failing to come to an agreement on a proposed party registration policy, Cal Poly’s entire Greek system was put on social probation on Jan. 10.
A copy of the proposed “Party Registration Policy and Guidelines” obtained by Mustang News revealed that the policy sought to prohibit hard alcohol, kegs, and drinking games at all fraternity and sorority gatherings.
The policy also stipulated that full guest lists must be submitted to fraternity and sorority life coordinators 24 hours prior to an event.
As of press time on Jan. 15, negotiations between Cal Poly Greek leaders, Dean of Students Jean DeCosta, and Greek Coordinator Kathryn O’Hagan were still ongoing.
University spokesman Matt Lazier told New Times that, because the party registration policy isn’t yet finalized, any comment from the university about the negotiation or plan specifics would be premature.
“Details of the proposed policy could change during further drafting and negotiations,” he wrote in an e-mail.
A call on deadline to O’Hagan went unanswered.
While on social probation, Greek chapters can’t play host to any parties or serve alcohol at their gatherings.
