The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has included San Luis Obispo as one of three locations nationwide in which to discuss issues related to the long-term storage of spent nuclear fuel from commercial power reactors, such as that stored onsite at the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant.

The public meeting is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. on Oct. 6 at the Embassy Suites, located at 333 Madonna Road in San Luis Obispo.

According to the NRC, the meeting is intended to educate the public on how the commission plans to address technical and regulatory issues related to the transportation and long-term storage of spent nuclear fuel, including updates on current research undertaken by the federal regulatory agency.
