#With holiday season fast approaching, it’s time to think once again about pumpkin pie, cranberry sauce, and maybe going on a diet. As feasting revelers wage the fabled “battle of the bulge, they may find a valuable ally in Cal Poly graduate and local entrepreneur Jeanne “Bean Murdock.

After earning a degree in P.E., Murdock moved to Hawaii in 1992 and started BeanFit, a home-based consultancy that provides health and fitness services to businesses and individuals. She soon retuned to California and relocated in San Diego, where she completed another degree in nutrition. Now, after more than a decade, Murdock and BeanFit have come home to the Central Coast.

“The backbone of my business [is] personal fitness training, Murdock explained, but over the years she had added an arsenal of services including nutrition counseling, health education, and corporate consulting, with programs ranging from workout training to shopping field trips.

Murdock tailors her BeanFit presentations for every group or individual, with customized programs for various age groups and food sensitivities. Since moving to Paso Robles just eight months ago, Murdock started SLO County Celiacs, a support group for people who suffer from celiac disease, an autoimmune disorder based on intolerance to gluten.

Dr. Ron Barbieri recently hired Murdock to design a health care lecture, which will be presented free of charge at the local dentist’s office. The weekend workshop will only be open to patients of Dr. Barbieri and Dr. Campbell, who share an office in San Luis Obispo, but Murdock expects other that doctors will soon hire her for the same purpose.

Murdock has also taken her relocation as an opportunity to expand the scope of her business. She now conducts professional and corporate seminars on organization and time management.

“I help people eliminate clutter and arrange paper, time, and resources in an efficient manner, Murdock said.

With 14 years of experience as a consultant and personal trainer, Murdock has worked with seniors, children, and triathletes. While her own participation in the Hawaiian triathlons was limited to spectatorship only, Murdock freely admits: “Those who can’t do, teach.
