On May 7, the Grover Beach City Council appointed Karen Bright to fill the seat left vacant by former councilmember Larry Versaw, who resigned from his position last month when he moved from Grover Beach. State law requires elected officials to maintain residency within city limits.
Before Bright replaced Versaw on the council, she served on the General Plan Advisory Committee and the Grover Beach Beautiful Committee. She was serving her second term on the planning commission before her appointment to the council. Her shift created an immediate vacancy on the planning commission.
All of Bright's prior positions were deemed volunteer and she received no salary. Now, as a member of the city council, she'll receive a monthly stipend of $300. Her term will end in December of 2008.
