Trial date set for former Paso cop 

Former Paso Robles police officer Jeffry Bromby was given a trial date; he’ll defend himself against charges that he misused police computer equipment while working as an officer with the Paso Robles Police Department.

On May 13, 2011, Bromby was charged with four misdemeanor counts of “unauthorized access of DMV information” and “unauthorized access of computer data.” According to a report filed by the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office at the time, Bromby was accused of using his patrol car computer to run DMV searches of people who were not “associated with any call for service.”

Bromby was placed on administrative leave from the department on Oct. 28, 2010. Paso PD submitted an unrelated criminal case to the District Attorney’s Office; the office declined to file criminal charges. Bromby received $49,308 in pay while he was out on leave through June 30, 2011, when he resigned for undisclosed reasons.

On Jan. 17, after about a half-dozen scheduled court appearances, Bromby’s defense attorney, Ilan Funke-Bilu, and prosecutor, Sheryl Wolcott, agreed to set trial for the afternoon of March 26. Both attorneys expected the trial to last about five days. A trial readiness conference was scheduled for March 20.
