If you've got a broken string--or a broken neck--don't fret! San Luis Obispo has a new repair shop, dedicated to all things stringed. Butch Boswell has been making music happen on the Central Coast for more than a decade as the front man for the alt/country/rock band Virgil Cane. He's also a trusted luthier.
Over the years, he's worked for some pretty prestigious music
# stores--including Rudy's in Manhattan--fixing celebrity guitars for auction and concert. He's worked at local shops, too. Most recently, it was Blue Note Guitars in SLO. Now he's spread his wings and opened his own repair shop: Butch's Guitar Repair.Boswell said that after years of developing relationships with clients and manufacturers, the timing was right to start his own business.
The little shop is next door to Tsurugi at the Creamery in SLO. Inside, Boswell offers strings, picks, basic accessories, and a few guitars that he's selling on consignment. For the most part, Boswell said he's selling service. He's certified to do warranty repairs on almost a dozen major brand guitars--and smaller makers, too, including Martin, Taylor, National Reso-Phonic, Santa Cruz, and Fender. Actually, Boswell can fix almost anything with strings, including banjos, mandolins, fiddles, ukuleles, and orchestral instruments.
Butch's Guitar Repair is located at 570 Higuera, No. 160. Stop in Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more info, call 782-9419.
