Local nanny faces molestation charges

When an Arroyo Grande parent allegedly decided to leave her son alone with a babysitter for the first time, she chose to set out a camera and videotape her nanny. That tape, said a sheriff's detective, apparently revealed 19-year-old Elizabeth Anne Dawson of San Luis Obispo sexually molesting a 6-year-old boy with Down syndrome.

The boy's mother allegedly discovered Dawson on tape undressing herself, masturbating, and placing her crotch in the child's face while having him play with her breast, a detective confirmed.

Dawson was arrested on April 21 and ultimately charged with child molestation. She reportedly told police that she had the child fondle her breasts for sexual gratification, a detective confirmed.

Jeff Stein-Dawson's San Luis Obispo attorney-couldn't be reached for comment. Officials with the Sheriff's Department haven't released the name of the family, citing confidentiality.

According to San Luis Obispo County Sheriff Sgt. Aaron Nix, the family acquired the nanny through a personal contact, not a professional service. Dawson had been working for the family for approximately 18 months and had no previous formal history as a nanny, Nix added.

Dawson pled not guilty to two counts of a lewd act on a child and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on April 7. She was released from San Luis Obispo County Jail on $50,000 bail.
