New Times: In a nutshell, what is the goal of the Community Action Partnership?
McKinley: Our mission is to empower individuals and families to achieve economic self-sufficiency and self-determination through comprehensive community-based programs. We have served the county for 45 years.

New Times: Because of the current economy, have you seen an increase the amount of people who require the Community Action Partnership’s help?
McKinley: Yes. In particular, places like the homeless shelters are seeing more people who need our services.”

New Times: As a nonprofit organization, how do you receive funding?
McKinley: We receive federal, state, and local government funds, as well as private donations and grants.

New Times: Are senior services being cut or diminshed because of the current economy?
McKinley: At this point, the budget has not been approved, so we do not know. Our adult-based programs in Templeton were cut last year, which is worrying.

New Times: How large is the staff overall? Do you have many volunteers?
McKinley: We work with a staff of 850 throughout 10 counties and we have a huge network of volunteers. Last year we served more than 43,000 people.
