Five Cities sees major drug bust

On Sept. 6, the San Luis Obispo County Narcotics Task Force teamed up with more than 200 local, state, and federal law enforcement officers and executed state search warrants in 18 locations. The raids, which were mainly conducted in the Five Cities area, resulted in the seizure of massive amounts of illegal drugs, stolen property, and firearms.

The investigation began in January of 2007 when the SLOPD was tracking the narcotic activities of one of the county's major drug distributors. Over time, the investigation escalated and further evidence revealed several co-conspirators who were trafficking cocaine and methamphetamine from Arizona and Tijuana, Mexico, to San Luis Obispo County for distribution.

"This really ties the loose ends and takes several bad people off the streets," said Javier Salaiz, special agent supervisor/SLOCNTF commander.

Despite the recent takedown, which agents believe will slow down county drug traffic, Salaiz suspects that the effects will only be temporary.
