Scout Coffee Co.'s Whiskey Latte and Fish Gaucho's Smoke + Fire + Blood Cocktail

If you’re pouring whiskey into your morning coffee, you probably have a drinking problem. If you’re ordering a whiskey latte at Scout Coffee Co. in downtown SLO, you probably also have a problem. That is, a flavor fatigue problem. My name is Hayley Thomas and I am a flavor addict. But seriously, folks: I am a sucker for any new flavored latte, and the promise of whiskey-tinged froth was just too much to resist (crafted with raw sugar whiskey syrup made in-house). As long as I don’t make a habit of it (at nearly $5 a pop, it could eat me out of house and home), this is a delightful little sin. Now, God give me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

When three powerful journalistic ladies get together, secrets are divulged and things get a little … boisterous. During a recent after work pow-wow with New Times Editor Camillia Lanham and Arts Editor Ryah Cooley, I learned of a sexy craft cocktail hailing from downtown Paso Robles—one that will no doubt strike fear into the hearts of our enemies. The cocktail? Smoke + Fire + Blood. The ingredients? El Silenco mezcal, charred jalapeño, blood orange, and fresh Peruvian lime. Because real writers like their tequila with a side of carcinogens.
