While the Indians Fire continues to burn out of control in Monterey County, air quality control officials are warning residents in SLO to be mindful of smoke and ash in the air.
Dry, dusty winds and drought conditions have fueled the fire, which has burned about 33 acres in the Ventana Wilderness portion of Los Padres National Forest. The estimated cost of fighting the fire so far is more than $12 million, with no end in sight. Six residences at the north edge of Fort Hunter Liggett have been evacuated.
