In spite of a longstanding contract impasse with Mayor Janice Peters and the Morro Bay City Council, Duke Energy is proud to announce the dedication of land for a new Marine Mammal Center triage facility.
For $1 per year for 20 years, the Marine Mammal Center has leased land to build a state-of-the-art facility on power plant property.
Rescued marine mammals, such as seals, sea lions, sea otters, whales, dolphins, and porpoises receive immediate care from local volunteers. Currently this care is administered in volunteer garages. The animals are then transported to the Center’s hospital facility in the San Francisco Bay Area. Young sea otter pups are often transported to the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
Duke Energy is pleased to partner with the Marine Mammal Center to provide a safe haven for injured marine mammals, and we will facilitate construction of this new center.
Of course, we would be even more pleased if the Morro Bay City Council would find a way to partner with us instead of consistently opposing our efforts to bring money and jobs to our hometown.
