On Sept. 28, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Narcotics Unit eradicated 1,118 marijuana plants in an outdoor ganja garden located in Upper Lopez Canyon near Lopez Lake.
The recent pot bust brings this year’s total amount of seized cannabis plants to nearly 40,000, which puts the county’s total on pace for an all-time high.
“We’re really having banner year,” said SLO County Sheriff’s Commander Brian Hascall.
Despite the already high tally of confiscated cannabis crops, Hascall anticipates discovering and destroying several more grow operations before the year’s end.
“We’re hitting the peak of harvest season, which lasts from June to mid November,” he said. “We’ll continue to find grows through the end of next month.”
Marijuana cultivation in California is considered a felony, and Hascall plans on coming down on individuals involved in similar acts to the full extent of the law.
No arrests were made in this most recent garden takedown, and the investigation is continuing.
