The following was provided by the SLO Mothers For Peace as a clarification to the Sept. 1 article “ECO-woes.”
“Since 1969 SLOMFP has been a local organization, not a chapter of a national group. We qualify for legal standing to oppose licensing the Diablo Canyon nuclear plant because we live in close proximity to the reactors and the radioactive wastes. While we have nation-wide supporters, the membership of our all-volunteer organization is local. Since early 2010 SLOMFP has been opposing license renewal of Diablo Canyon. And since the nuclear disaster in Japan, we have been working with other nuclear watchdog groups nationwide to push the NRC to promptly enact the 12 recommendations of the NRC Taskforce on Fukushima for increased safety.”
