One man is under arrest in connection to a bizarre bomb threat that brought bus service in SLO to a grinding halt.
The incident occurred just after 8:30 a.m. Dec. 6 when a man stood up on a crowded city bus and addressed the other passengers. In a video taken by one of the riders, he appears to have a stack of fliers in his hands.
“I’m here to pass out literature and talk about the possibility that there may be a bomb on one of the buses,” he says in the video. “This is not a joke, so I would advise you not to ride the buses today or the rest of the week until I am shown to be wrong. But I have reason to believe this is the case. Thank you for your attention.”
Police said the man stayed on the bus until it stopped at the Cal Poly Performing Arts Center, where he exited and walked north. Just before 1:45 p.m., police confirmed they had taken a man into custody on the campus. He was identified as 33-year-old Marcus Henry Karr.�
The incident brought a halt to all bus service in the city, while SLO police searched the vehicles using specially trained dogs. However, following Karr’s arrest, police said they did not believe the threat was credible.�
