Al Fonzi’s “The green-energy chimera” (Feb. 25) is a load of crap. Fonzi parrots the same old conservative, alternative reality BS talking points we’ve endured for the past four years. He offers no solutions, proposes no way forward, but keeps yelling: No, no, no! In Fonzi’s world it makes total sense to keep doing what no longer works simply because that’s the way it has always been done. He’s afraid of change. That fear does not have to be contagious.

  1. Few lemmings question the swarm’s decision to plunge off of the cliff, and those who do can expect to e criticized.

  2. So, if you differ with Al Fonzi, perhaps you could tell us , in what specific ways, and with what alternative solutions.

If you are a deep believer in what many of us consider the “climate crisis” hoax, it would help us if you could provide foundations for your belief. A passing familiarity with physics makes that concept appear laughable. If you’d like to debate the physics, let’s have a discussion about that, including facts and numbers.

  3. “many of us consider the “climate crisis” hoax”

Well, maybe not “many,” but there are certainly a handful of scientists who do not believe that man is causing the recent warming. Unfortunately, most of them work for the fossil fuel industry and so are really not reliable.

The fact is that, according to NASA, “Multiple studies published in peer-reviewed scientific journals show that 97 percent or more of actively publishing climate scientists agree: Climate-warming trends over the past century are extremely likely due to human activities. In addition, most of the leading scientific organizations worldwide have issued public statements endorsing this position.”

97% is even better than the number of scientists who believe in evolution.

We currently have some of the solutions, such as wind, solar and to a lesser extent nuclear (if we could determine what to do with the waste, it would be THE solution). More technologies are in development stages right now. Companies such as Tesla and Nikola are racing to come up with the best battery solution for travel.

Nikola is hoping to produce long range commercial trucks that are zero-emission. It will happen. Right now we need to begin weaning ourselves off of fossil fuels and that road will be bumpy, but we certainly owe it to the planet and future generations to get started.

  4. Don’t forget that the U.S. is not the only source of ‘greenhouse gases’.

The rest of the world has to either forego advancing into a viable future or make the changes some advocate the U.S. must make now.
China, India, Africa, South America and all of Europe including those on a par with the U.S and those on a par with parts of what are called the undeveloped world have to give up much more than we would here at home.

At the same time, many of us here at home will not or cannot afford the cost of the proposed changes.

The wise thing to do, in my opinion, is let innovations be the key to our future. Certainly not mandates from above, be it state or federal laws, international treaties or U.N. mandates. As innovations bring affordable new products to the masse, they will sell. It simply requires a bit of faith in mankind.
