I recently read the article regarding the delay of the construction of the Arroyo Grande Library (“Slow renovation at the Arroyo Grande Library leaves locals concerned about the wait,” Sept. 3). I am a library patron here in Arroyo Grande and I’m excited about the changes happening there and anxious for the day when it will be finished.
But I’m also a happy card-carrying member of the Grover Beach Community Library, which is only 2 miles down the road. This library is 20 years going strong and still so many neighbors don’t know of its existence! Some of the folks who were interviewed for the article were sad that their children or grandchildren were going to miss out on the in-library experience, but the community library has a delightful children’s room and a young adults collection along with thousands of fiction and nonfiction hardcover books. For that true hands-on browsing experience, this library wins!
The librarians are all volunteers and are delightful; hand-stamping the check-out card just like I remember in the days of my youth when I just loved going in to the library to search the stacks. They also have an online Storytime with Darlene, the head librarian, on-demand! I am a proud member of this library board and happy to be a part of its mission, to provide a family-friendly public library for the benefit of the community.
The library is open from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays at 240 N. 9th St. in Grover Beach.
