Here’s your chance to see a cult classic on the big screen and support your local radio station when The Rock Community Radio (97.3/107.9 FM) hosts The Blues Brothers fundraiser screening at Bay Theatre.
Directed by John Landis (National Lampoon’s Animal House, An American Werewolf in London, Trading Places, ¡Three Amigos!) from a script co-written with Dan Aykroyd based on SNL characters developed by Aykroyd and John Belushi, The Blues Brothers follows recent parolee Jake Blues and his brother Elwood as they stop the foreclosure of the Catholic orphanage they grew up in by “putting the band back together” and making money to pay back property taxes.

It’s a laugh-out-loud wild ride with amazing musical performances by James Brown, Cab Calloway, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, and John Lee Hooker. It co-stars Carrie Fisher as Jake’s murderous former fiancée, Henry Gibson as a hapless American Nazi, John Candy as Jake’s parole officer, and ’60s fashion icon Twiggy. It’s also notable for the outrageous chase scene through a mall that destroyed both the mall and more than 100 cars—all real stunts. This was pre-CGI.
Attendees are encouraged to dress in their best black suits, fedoras, and sunglasses for a pre-show costume contest. (133 min.) ∆
