I’ve been waiting for this subject to wake up, so here goes. I have lived in Los Osos since 1974, started and owned three businesses, and love this community. The subject of this letter being Sunnyside School/park. My children both went there, I played baseball there, and we all watched Halley’s Comet there.
I do believe Sunnyside School should belong to Los Osos; however, I do not believe we should have to buy it back. My reasoning is that Los Osos residents have already paid for it with our school taxes. In my case, more than 50 years of taxes. We have bought and paid for it several times over. San Luis Coastal Unified School District should grant or give back Sunnyside School to Los Osos.
How stupid are we not to think it is already ours? In the time since San Luis Coastal Unified School District has closed Sunnyside School, it/we have built Monarch Grove School and Baywood Middle School. Now, the district wants to sell Sunnyside to the highest bidder. Why? Because Los Osos can afford it? We can always afford it so they can use our taxes freely. WTF, now is the time to give back what we have already paid for.
On another community subject, Pandora’s Box was opened about a community swimming pool fund. Years ago, my family helped plan, organize, and donate for a future community swimming pool. Sounds like the money set aside was used, disappeared, or shrunk. Where did it go? Oh well, Los Osos, vote no on Measure B-26. We should not have to buy back something we’ve already paid for: Sunnyside School.
