I opened the March 17 New Times and inside the first page I see a full page advertisement for Lucky Strike cigarettes. I am shocked and saddened that your need for funds has you supporting the purchase of cigarettes. They are proven killers and for many years have not been given space in print or on television. Your paper went in the trash along with my respect.

  1. Cars are proven killers. Airplanes are proven killers. Baseball bats are proven killers. Socialists are proven killers.

When does the list stop, Laurie? Like it or not, Tobacco is a government subsidized crop, like corn, wheat, and marijuana. That some folks don’t like it, is all well and good for them. Some people DO like it and fully consider the risk, like driving or flying.

Most of us objected to legalizing marijuana for many, many decades. Promoters claimed that it was no more harmful or dangerous than alcohol. As if MORE inebriated people driving cars or flying airplanes was supposed to make it all better.

So. Don’t like the advertisement? Turn the page!

  2. Do we really need any more strident scolds working tirelessly to protect us from ourselves?
