This is in response to Peggy Penny’s attack on Songwriters at Play founder Steve Key, and not paying the performers (“Keep the medal; pay songwriters,” June 21).

First off, let me say that I’ve seen Miss Penny perform. Yes, she’s better than some, but not anywhere close to as good as others, believe me. What she fails to remember is that these performers are Artists. Any true Artist will perform for the love of their craft, regardless if they’re paid or not. Too many “professional singers,” like Miss Penny, are trying to become famous, rather than share their craft.

Remember, Peggy, nowhere does it say I am required to pay you so I can hear you sing. It’s a privilege for you to be paid, not a right. Get over yourself.
