Don Grant, in his letter “Build something” (Jan. 21) looks for solutions that would give unemployed people with limited skills the bare necessities. He too quickly discards programs like those of the New Deal, though they would do the most good: namely, provide work of some kind for everyone. The problem is finding the money for such programs. Tax cuts, especially the lowering of tax rates on upper-income individuals, deny our government the resources to solve unemployment.
