A huge thank you to the county Planning Commission for drawing a line in the sand and denying a permit for a sand and gravel mine on the Salinas River. The commissioners just said no to an inappropriate project that did not need to take up any more of the county’s time or another taxpayer dollar, given the hard evidence that the Salinas River and its tributaries are currently in an overdraft situation with the existing mines. What a refreshing change from the old days! This is the kind of unbiased leadership we expect to see from local government!
