The League of Women Voters wishes to thank SLO County Clerk-Recorder Tommy Gong for his many years of service to the voters of San Luis Obispo County. We will miss him. He and his staff have done an exemplary job securing and processing our votes, particularly during the demanding 2020 elections. Last year’s elections were conducted in a safe, fair, and secure manner, resulting in a record turnout. It is unfortunate that uninformed, even abusive, comments and misinformation have taken center stage and put San Luis Obispo County in the national news in a negative way.
Elections are the cornerstone of our democracy, and it is critical that elections and the office of county clerk-recorder are approached in a professional and non-partisan manner. We would hope that the SLO County Board of Supervisors realizes the importance of this. We will be closely following how the board moves forward with filling the opening in this vital elected office.

Thank you, to the League of Women Voters for acknowledging Tommy Gong’s service to SLO County.
The treatment by members of our community was shameful, and it has been difficult for me to comprehend that such hatred exists in our County.
I wish Tommy nothing but the best in his new location and new position. May he never encounter the vitriol he was subjected to here.
Tommy Gong made the decision to leave SLO County after his wife, Sherry Gong, was criminally convicted for embezzling money from schoolchildren. Contrary to the false narrative some are painting, Mr,. Gong made the decision to leave his position well before the May SLO County board of supervisors meeting.
Simply, Mr. Gong decided to live nearer his elderly parents, and his wife’s criminal conviction for embezzlement made the decision an easy one, sometimes a fresh start is best for all involved. 🙂
During Gong’s term, the County Clerk’s office functioned reliably and without drama or scandal. As a conservative, that is all I ask of government. Now, if we could just get the rest of SLO government to do the same.
Thank you, League of Women Voters, for publically expressing your support of Tommy Gong. Mr. Gong has an impeccable reputation and will be missed. I’m embarrased that two of our county board of superisors did not call out their Republican constituents who sought to defame Mr. Gong.
@JillStegman: When taking public comment, it is not the role of politicians to “call out” or argue with any speaker. Their testimony speaks for itself, and the rest of the community is certainly able to evaluate it for themselves. Since the opportunity to comment is mandated, being allowed to speak is not an endorsement of the view expressed. At almost any meeting, a substantial portion of the comments come from unhinged partisans, and the best you can do is just enforce time limits.
It’s certainly expected that a supervisor stand up for an elected public servant who has been defamed and maligned by the public. Saying nothing like Compton or something ambiguous like Arnold implies tacit support.
With all due respect, the League of Women Voter’s has no business involving itself in these types of issues.
“Steve Edwards,” hiding behind a pseudonym, is a white nationalist smear-meister and slanderer. Don’t give his reactionary revisionism a second thought.
By viewing his picture, it’s easy to see why our ‘friend’ is named Fugly, it is a perfect description of him!
Mr. Fugly thinks anyone who flies the flag is a white nationalist, and anyone who disagrees with him is a slanderer, so I wonder if he got his civics education at the University of North Korea?
Maybe his mom ‘accidentally’ dropped him on his head numerous times when he was a baby?
Tommy Gong knew he was done in this community when his wife pled guilty to embezzling money from schoolchildren. Tommy’s knowledge of the crime has never been explained, and, since integrity is a huge factor in the job he performs, it is perfectly reasonable for people to question whether he can continue to be effective against that narrative.
Sorry Alt Left liberals, your attempt to ‘manufacture’ an issue that somehow Tommy Gong was wronged is pathetic, and not even your liberal dupe/low-information voters can believe this one.

Tommy Gong’s breeder wife stole thousands of dollars from a children’s booster club. Money went into family bank account – and Tommy obviously knows how to COUNT doesn’t he? The Gong family is untrustworthy. If my wife stole from children and I slept next to her every night and shared the same bank account, I would be ashamed of myself and my family. Yet there’s no shame from the Gong family, only excuses and stories of victimhood followed by crocodile tears. Their friends from the media assisted Tommy and his filthy wife out of much community rebuke after they were cornered by DA DOW in court and poor Tommy’s integrity was questioned. Mrs Gong testified in court she required funds to pay family bills. Tommy benefited from his THIEF wife to pay his family bills. Let’s not forget that.
Bubbye Tommy Gong. Don’t let another jail cell door smack your wife in the ass before your criminal wife makes her getaway “to help your aging Bay area parents” stretch their 401k account with her retail therapy. The Gong Show has ended. Good riddance.
