What’s keeping you from joining every other city in San Luis Obispo County in signing up with Central Coast Community Energy (3CE)?

It will provide clean, renewable energy at a savings. Atascadero could save money on electricity now costing it more than $600,000 yearly. This could help pay for much needed improvements for our fire and police departments.

Atascadero City Council was presented with 3CE’s energy program in 2018 and again in 2019, but declined to put it on the agenda nor have staff do a report. Meanwhile Paso Robles, San Luis Obispo, Pismo Beach, Grover Beach, Arroyo Grande, and Santa Maria all responded positively and signed on with 3CE.

Many Atascadero businesses and residents want renewable energy at a savings. PG&E would still distribute power, but 3CE would source clean energy along with investment and job creation in our community. More than 10 million California residents now receive electricity from similar community choice energy programs.

Since we missed the window of opportunity to sign on with our sister city, Paso Robles, it will take until 2023 for Atascadero to get approval from the California Public Utilities Commission to attain service, so there’s plenty of time for questions to be asked and answered. There’s no obligation for staying with 3CE if unsatisfied. The option is ours but only if we are allowed to exercise it.

  1. Community Choice Energy is a win win for everyone, saving money and giving a choice to everyone. Hopefully the new council will agree.

  2. Let’s be in touch with Atascadero City Council to agendize the Community Choice and ask for a staff report. The City is in financial straights and needs income where grants have dried up.

  3. I’d like to see more information on this plan to save energy by going with 3CE. So you are saying that by only using renewable energy that actually costs more to produce than other forms of traditional energy and does not have the capacity to power california when the sun goes down will save us money? Buying energy from 3CE who then in turns uses our existing provider to distribute the energy will cost less? San Luis has positive reactions to their decision? I find that odd as most people have reported their energy bills rising after making the switch. Something doesn’t quite add up here

  4. Good God! More group think from sheeple. Atascadero chose not to join! Leave us be! P.G & E is fine, just because our socialist one party state wants us all to fall in line doesn’t mean we all will. I applaud Atascadero for being a free thinking city and doing what it’s residents want. Atascadero isn’t asking any other cities in this county for money for power, let us be free to choose, just like you folks want women to have the right to. It’s not our reproductive rights but our right to choose the power provider to our city, it truly amazes me how liberals want everyone to have choice on some things they deem “freedom of choice”, but not on something as basic as power. Shut up you fools! Mind your own damn business for once.

  5. I agree with you, Marty. Giving your community a choice for their power provider is a win win no brainer! People can opt out of 3CE’s power mix if they want to… but before they do, they should know that Community Choice programs like 3CE are dedicated to providing the cleanest mix of energy, the best customer service, and usually lower prices than PG&E, who, by the way is unaccountable to our communities. 3CE has multiple governing boards made up of community members and leaders who shape their policies…. can we say the same about PG&E?

  6. Weird that I have to choose something then I can “opt” out later. How about I just say no and that’s the end of it? Isn’t the first NO the opt out option in the first place? Liberals are like nags, never just accepting that the answer is NO. Newsflash…The cleanest mix of energy according to you, no thought is given to people that drive V-8’s, or dirt-bikes, or think drilling for oil or using coal and natural gas is a GOOD thing and don’t want to stop doing it. You somehow get to decide the future for me power-wise, because you have been made to believe that your ideas for power are “cleaner” than mine. I CHOOSE oil, coal and GOD forbid ( or the god you choose and understand that makes people in 48 non-specific genders which all need their own safe spaces and gender neutral bathrooms court enforced on every small business in the world) NUCLEAR power for my future. I do so having read copiously about each and also having read copiously about the “clean energy”‘ ideas and what they provide. Why can’t we have it ALL? Oil and solar, wind and coal, nuclear and hydro, working all at once. We produce all of them cleanly now and can continue to do so leaving us with a surplus which we could power any and all who would wish to purchase it providing a surplus to $$$$$$$$$. Good and clean.
