After a 20-year absence, the annual California Fireman's Muster will come to Morro Bay on June 2 and 3. The event will include a competition between fire departments from throughout the state, showing off their firefighting skills for all to see. The event begins Saturday morning at 9 a.m. with a parade of fire engines down Morro Bay Boulevard. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the competition will take place in front of the old fire station at 715 Harbor St. On Sunday, the competition will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The fire muster is free to the public. Tuesday, June 5, marks Hunger Awareness Day, and the San Luis Obispo Food Bank Coalition is challenging everyone to help out on this day of giving. The Food Bank Challenge has been organized to encourage everyone to make an effort to donate at least one dollar to fight hunger in SLO. The Food Bank Coalition uses the money to buy food and distribute it to more than 140 nonprofit groups to feed thousands of hungry people. According to the Food Bank, more than 25,000 local residents benefited from last year's event.
