It is hard to understand how two of our own have made it to high office when they think the way that they do. Our numbers will be diminished if we don’t wear masks, social distance, and attend only small gatherings. Our extended families during the pandemic will become sick at a faster rate than the general population. Yet, these two public officials want us to feel free to put the lives of those we love at risk at Christian gatherings.
Jesus was a super spreader of the gospel. Do SLO County District Attorney Dan Dow and Sheriff Ian Parkinson love Jesus so much they want us to become super spreaders of coronavirus so we can meet our maker before our time? Do they think the coronavirus is the devil and we must exorcise it from our spiritual being?
They are not telling people how to be safe.

In a free country, adults calculate risk and make their own decisions. I appreciate Dow and Parkinson not treating us like children. I also appreciate their respecting the Constitution.
By the way, for most people (i.e. not 80 year olds with co-morbidities), Covid is about as deadly as the flu.

John, that is a fairly dated (February) article you cite! Back then we knew much less about long term effects than we know today. And we still need to learn much more how it affects people.
OP,
If people were not acting like children the government would not have to generate regulations to encourage them to do so. The supreme court also just ruled that not allowing churches to have large gatherings isn’t undue burden because all large gathers are uniformly (and temporarily) not allowed. (see https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/19pdf/19a1044_pok0.pdf)
OR another take, lets throw tear gas on parishioners that refuse to not obey the order. Oops! you were only referring to the religious clause of the first amendment right? Dollars to donuts says you probably weren’t commenting on other articles that were speaking about the right to peaceably assemble being taken away from protesters.
Let’s not forget that freedom does not mean free from consequences.
One last note, why do the lives of old people not matter? The issue isn’t that its doesn’t kill young people, (BTW not dying seems like a weird way to define amount of danger)its that they go home and spread it to their older neighbors and family members. But since it only kills old people, who cares right? I am sure it says something like that in the bible, right? “Honor thy father and mother….until they’re old then f%!k’em. Life is for the young! Yolo!” – Jesus
