In honor of April 1, long held to be a day for pulling pranks and crafting tricks, SLO County’s weekly paper, New Times, ran a series of articles of questionable veracity. In its news briefs section, for instance, stories ranged from outright fabrications—such as pieces on a new towering development in downtown SLO, Karl Rove’s bizarre behavior, a New Times web venture, and a PG&F emergency dissemination—to real events reported in unusual ways—such as fashion at an Excelaron event that actually happened—to the absolute truth, such as the correction listed below.

Other writing throughout the issue carried the same mischievous bent, marked by an “April 1” logo to key readers in on the joke.
